Ai Qing: “he dies a second time”
Things have been pretty quiet in Neader-survey land since Good Friday. I’ve been trying to correct the near total self-absorption coincident with last week’s Howard Barker immersion by catching up on current events.
It’s a desperate sort of gesture, but necessary, even moral, for there can be no Theatre of Catastrophe without the serial catastrophe of current events to give it point.
But, well, anyway, among all the criminal, bloody and insane things that are this week described as having currency, the disappearance of Ai Weiwei is the one that depresses me the most.
He was abducted by the Chinese authorities and has been missing now for something like 26 days. This site is useful. Read the rest of this entry »
